Looting is Andrew Bourcet, a Canadian producer, DJ and curator formerly known as Calmpound.
Andrew's musical journey started at 12 - learning to play guitar, percussion and drums as well as developing a deep interest in the collection and research of music, music history and genre trajectories. Beginning to play in bands ranging from death metal, post-hardcore, folk, noise and drone.
Utilizing solo studio compositions and experimental folk in the early 2000โs and after acquiring a home studio, releasing a number of independently distributed albums under his own name.
The album speak about the process of finding his voice, while at the same, speak about slowly learning to live with an anxiety disorder, neural divergency, CPTSD and the mental and physical symptoms that come with these conditions.
The songs are the music of learning to live with these conditions as an adult, processing and exploring trauma and synthesizing the emotions of fear, shame and constant awareness of death through his music, allowing for a level of imperfection and noise in the recordings as a method to humanize and expose his imperfections through imperfections in his process.
Chest Pains is an attempt to close the gap between Andrew's beginnings in music as a guitar player and songwriter in the late 90's - early 00โs and his current work in experimental club music by taking piano, guitar and keyboard improvisations and letting them swim together with elements from his biggest musical influences - jungle, ambient, OST, post-dubstep and sinogrime.
The title 'Chest Pains' is also a reference to the weaponization of sound in the context of crowd control, mind control and social manipulation as well as a reference to the sonic soft war with the modern military-industrial-entertainment-complex that modern revolutionaries and counter cultural artists are engaged with.
Looting as a name references the the act of forcible redistribution of wealth and power, double standards facing those carrying out revolutionary acts.
